SCALE & CUT STUDIO Version 2.0.3 - created by Daniel Aklipi ========================================================================== Scale & Cut Studio turns a Bambu Studio project into a bigger print that fits your printer. It scales the model, cuts oversized objects into pieces (straight or tilted cuts), adds alignment connectors, paints the cut faces so the glue seams don't show, orients the pieces, packs them onto plates and writes a new Bambu Studio project, ready to slice. REQUIREMENTS -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit. - Nothing else to install: everything the app needs is inside ScaleCutStudio.exe. - Bambu Studio is only needed for "Slice check" and "Open in Bambu Studio". The default location is C:\Program Files\Bambu Studio\bambu-studio.exe; if yours is elsewhere, set the path on the Export step. GETTING STARTED -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Unzip the folder anywhere (for example your Documents folder). 2. Double-click ScaleCutStudio.exe. The first start takes a few seconds longer while Windows unpacks the app. If Windows SmartScreen warns about an unknown app, click "More info" > "Run anyway". 3. Click "Open project..." and pick a Bambu Studio .3mf file, or drop the file onto the window. Tip: pin the app to Start or the taskbar (right-click the exe). Your own files are never overwritten - the app always writes a new .3mf. THE WINDOW -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Left rail The six steps of the workflow (below). Right panel Settings for the current step. Rarely needed values are folded away under small "advanced" headings. Center 3D view: Model (object + cut planes), Pieces (as they print), Plate, All plates and Assembly. Left-drag rotates, right-drag pans, the wheel zooms. Header About (i), Undo / Redo, File menu (open project, open or save a job, recent files), Preview and Build 3MF. Status bar Progress, messages and the Log button. Keyboard: Ctrl+Z undo, Ctrl+Y redo, Ctrl+O open project, Ctrl+S save job, F5 preview. WORKFLOW -------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. MODEL The project, the detected printer and the list of objects. Check the objects to include; each shows its size and whether it fits or needs cuts. 2. SCALE Choose % of the current size, % of the original model, or the longest side in millimeters. Quick buttons for 100-400 %. You can give single objects a different scale. 3. CUTS - Auto-plan places cuts for you: pieces fit the plate, cuts avoid moving (print-in-place) joints and thin slivers, and seams are placed on edges and color changes where possible. - Or add cuts across X, Y or Z yourself. For the selected cut you can move it (slider, millimeters, nudge buttons), tilt it in two directions, limit it to one side of an earlier cut, and let a piece stand on the cut face when it prints. - The colored tags under the editor tell you if a cut is clean, goes through a moving joint, clips a thin part, leaves tiny slivers, and how much of the seam lands on an edge or color line. 4. JOINTS & SEAMS Connectors that line the pieces up when you glue them: - Printed pins loose pins printed with the job, holes in both faces - Plugs pegs printed onto one piece, hole in the other - Steel dowels holes for store-bought dowel pins - Magnets pockets for disc magnets - None flat faces Also: pin sizes, fit clearance, "fit-test coupons" (small test blocks to print first so you can check the fit), color band painted on the cut faces so no line shows at the seam, optional painted numbers on matching faces. 5. PRINT SETUP Orientation (as designed, largest cut face down, or fewest supports), supports, brim, infill and walls (for all pieces or per object), printer presets or the printer detected from the project, plate gap and prime tower space. 6. BUILD & EXPORT - Preview first (header button or F5) to see pieces, plates and the assembly without writing anything. - Build 3MF writes the new project plus an assembly guide (.html and .txt next to the 3MF) and checks the file. - Export STLs writes one STL per piece (no color). - Slice check lets Bambu Studio slice every plate and reports print time, filament and cost. - Open in Bambu Studio opens the result. Save your work at any time with File > Save job... - a job file keeps the source project path, every setting and every cut. GOOD TO KNOW -------------------------------------------------------------------------- - Always Preview and look at the plates before building; the auto-planner and the orientation choices are good guesses, not guarantees. - A tilted cut that becomes the bottom of a piece leaves it standing on a slope; slicers refuse that. Let that piece stand on the cut face, or keep that cut straight. The app warns you when this happens. - Pieces with print-in-place parts keep their designed orientation. - 0.2 mm clearance per side is a slip fit on a Bambu printer. If pins are tight, raise the clearance; if they are loose, lower it. The fit-test coupons let you check before printing everything. - Warnings about "floating regions" from Bambu Studio can also appear on the uncut model; they come from the model's design. - Not supported: dovetail or snap-fit joints, zig-zag cut profiles and hollowing (the slicer's infill already keeps big pieces light). - The app keeps temporary files in %TEMP%\ScaleCutStudio and settings in %LOCALAPPDATA%\ScaleCutStudio; both can be deleted safely when the app is closed. If something goes wrong, errors are logged to %LOCALAPPDATA%\ScaleCutStudio\errors.log. UNINSTALL -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Delete the folder.
